NCAA Division I Eligibility Standards (2026)
This document provides specific regulatory language for Division I athletics as of the April 2026 update.
1. Direct Wording: NCAA Bylaw 12.8.1
12.8.1 Five-Year Rule. A student-athlete shall complete their seasons of participation within five calendar years from the beginning of the first term in which the student-athlete first registered full-time.
12.8.1.2 Continuous Nature. Once the five-year period begins, it shall run continuously until the five calendar years have expired.
2. Executive Order (April 3, 2026)
“National Action to Save College Sports”
“To restore order, athletic governing bodies shall establish standardized windows of no more than a five-year period and provision for one (1) ‘free’ transfer.”
